Using this training material

Use of this resource is dependent on acceptance of our Terms & Conditions.

You agree to use this site only for lawful purposes, and in a manner that does not infringe the rights of, or restrict or inhibit the use and enjoyment of this site by any third party. Such restriction or inhibition includes, without limitation, conduct which is unlawful, or which may harass or cause distress or inconvenience to any person, and the transmission of obscene or offensive content or disruption of normal flow of dialogue within this site.

What information is held?

The training is open to all members of the public, and a record is kept of number of users visiting the site and how far each progresses through the training, to compare number of users beginning the training with those completing it.

Representatives of HM Home Office monitor number of completions from each provided industry sector on a monthly basis. HM Home Office has the option to share this information with representatives of other relevant government departments (e.g. Department of Education) at their request.

Users are given the option to pause a session and to complete a certificate of completion. Only in these cases, when the user submits their details on registration is any record created of user name, email and/or employer. We will never ask for your home address or any other domestic information. This information is kept for 10 calendar months from registration in order to allow the user to re-access their training (with automated password provided) or their completion certificate.

A named representative of an Employer (e.g. an NHS Trust Site Designated Safeguarding Lead) can request access to a portal to track completions of staff if they have registered using a provided and approved employment email address. In these cases, the employer must have informed staff of this practice prior to their accessing the training.

How is Information Used?

Information collected during this training is solely processed to deliver online learning and to store and report on users’ learning activity. It will never be sold for financial gain or shared with other organisations for commercial purposes.

Examples of how the data held might be used include but are not limited to the following:

  • For internal review.
  • Customising the content and/or layout of training
  • Notifying users about updates
  • Giving users access to their own learning history.
  • Making users’ learning activity records visible to specific named individuals, such as employers, to allow employers to view their trainees’ activity. A user would have to give their explicit approval to authorise another user to view their records.
  • Providing anonymous summary data to partner organisations, such as professional Bodies; or local organisations, for example Strategic Health Authorities or Trusts.

Withdrawing Consent:

On registration, users give their right to consent for the retention of their details, but also have the right to withdraw this consent at any time.

To do this, please email Prevent.Training@homeoffice.x.gsi.gov.uk and put the words WITHDRAWN CONSENT in the subject line. These requests will be processed manually and may take up to 10 working days. If there is any confusion or discrepancy with this request (e.g. we cannot find a record of your email from registration) you will be contacted by a member of the technical team.
